I’d like to start with an answer to the most commonly asked question, “So, like how does a guy from a little village somewhere in southern Africa end up in like America, and like more specifically, in this worship school?”

Firstly, I live in a house (bricks, not mud), in a huge city – Johannesburg – with highways and skyscrapers, much like Atlanta…only better! Kidding…Atlanta’s pretty rad… I have 2 amazing parents and 2 younger sisters who are pretty average…they’re improving though… Just kidding! They’re also amazing and I miss them heaps!

So my life got flipped upside down (or the right way up) in June. I miraculously came across Aaron’s website which made mention of his worship school. I had seen it a year before, but wrote it off as a nice, yet impossible, idea. So I was interested by this “coincident” of stumbling across it. The only bummer was it was 22 June – applications were due that day, which was an hour away from being over. So I wrote it off…again. The next day I sent through an email asking if I could send through a late application. I got the go ahead, but I wasn’t super hopeful…a late foreign application…

Four days later I sent through an application which was missing certain elements that I just couldn’t pull together in the time I had. Everything that was happening gave me plenty reason to believe that it just wasn’t going to happen. Apart from the weekly group mail, I didn’t hear anything. Having less than a mustard seed of faith, I had accepted that it wasn’t happening. So, when the email came through requesting a Skype video interview, I was super surprised and reasoned that it was most probably just part of the process. The next day Aaron phoned and said they had checked with the Holy Spirit and that they wanted me to join this year’s group of worship interns. WHAT?! I was freakin out – what had I signed up for?!

Within 6 weeks of that phone call, I was on a plane heading to the states. It’s been 8 weeks of intense radness since school started on 2 September. For the first time in my 26 years, I know without a doubt that this is where God has placed me for this particular season of my life. Being here has given me a reason to look back over the past ten years and “retrace my steps.” Its blown me away to see how every little moment has played a significant role in channeling me towards this opportunity. Praise Him!
